One (1) Science Research Assistant

 

Brief Description of the Position:
1. Reports directly to the Seismic and Tsunami Network Development Section Head and the Division Head of the Seismological Observation and Earthquake Prediction Division (SOEPD)
2. Assists in seismic and tsunami instrumentation projects, such as but not limited to installation, repair, and maintenance of monitoring instruments.
3. Participates in the monitoring and checking of the state of health of the monitoring instrument and software at the data receiving centers of the main office cluster centers and mirror stations.
4. Assists in coordinating with stakeholders on the provision of an area for a monitoring station.
5. Conducts site survey for monitoring station location.
6. Assists in research and innovation on instrument design for earthquake monitoring.
7. Write activity reports and submit to supervisors.
8. Willing and fit to travel around the Philippines.
9. Willing to report to the office in case of emergencies and be deployed for quick responses.
10. Perform other functions as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Brief Description of the Position:
1. Assist the Section Head and the Division Chief in timely delivery of accurate Earthquake and Tsunami Information and Warning or Advisory.
2. Assist in the Operation and Maintenance of all the Stations of the Philippine Seismic Network (PSN) and the Philippine Tsunami Network (PTN) but more focused on the operations of the PTN.
3. Assist in coordinating with the three Cluster Centers and Mirror Station
4. Participate in earthquake and tsunami data acquisition, processing, analysis and interpretation
5. Assist the coordination works with all the Local Government Units (LGU) for earthquake and tsunami related matters and activities such as Workshops on Tsunami Evacuation,
6. Assist in the compilation of all issued Earthquake and Tsunami Information.
7. Assist in the development and enhancement of system interface related to automation of the issuance of Earthquake and Tsunami Information.
8. Assist in all the improvement and station repair and rehabilitation projects of the Division but more focused on Tsunami Stations.
9. Assist in the continuous enhancement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
10. Assist in in the conduct of IEC, establishment and installation of CTAS, integration of CTAS into Tsunami Early Warning (TeWS) of the Philippines and assistance to the Workshop on Tsunami Evacuation for Tsunami Evacuation Plans and Procedures of the coastal communities of the LGUs.
11. Assist in finalizing the Tsunami Evacuation Plans of the coastal LGUs.
12. Other works assigned by the SOEPD Chief and STNO Section Head related to issuance and operations including external meetings, field trips to any of the stations and external engagement towards developing a Tsunami Ready Community.

Brief Description of the Position:

1. Assist in the enhancement of system interface in the Data Receiving Center (DRC) towards system automation for issuing Earthquake and Tsunami Information, Warning and Advisories.
2. Assist in the maintenance and operation of any Earthquake and Tsunami Visualization Tools.
3. Assist in the development of additional visualization tools and system interface to back up and enhance the current system.
4. Assist the technical personnel especially during earthquake and tsunami crises including the regular earthquake and tsunami network operations and the timely issuance of Earthquake and Tsunami Information.
5. Assist the coordination for preventive maintenance of both the seismic and tsunami networks
6. Assist in the fabrication and replication of tsunami sensors and in the deployment of seismic and tsunami instruments.
7. Assist the protection and safekeeping of all serviceable and non-serviceable equipment and instruments of STNO and SOEPD.
8. Assist the Local Government Units in the procurement and establishment of their CTAS and to assist the technical personnel during the conduct of fieldwork.
9. assist in the conduct of TeWS Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign and in the Workshop on Tsunami Evacuation under the project Tsunami Observation, Warning, community Evacuation and Resilience (TOWER)
10. Assist the technical personnel and Special Disbursing Officer (SDO) in other administrative works.
11. Assist in the 24/7 Earthquake and Tsunami monitoring.
12. Other assisting works that may be assigned by the Section Head or Division Head.
