The "Project for Capacity Development for Monitoring and Information Dissemination of Earthquake, Tsunami, and Volcano" will be in full swing in 2025 by the DOST-PHIVOLCS in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). A Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) Meeting among the cooperating agencies—DOST, Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Central Office Disaster Information Coordinating Center (CODIX) of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA), and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)—was held today, December 03, 2024, at PHIVOLCS Auditorium in Quezon City.

To strengthen disaster preparedness in the Philippines, this three-year project will increase the capacity of DOST-PHIVOLCS to monitor earthquakes and provide early warning of tsunamis. Additionally, it will enhance the dissemination of information about volcanoes, earthquakes, and tsunami between disaster management authorities and the public, enabling more appropriate and timely response actions.

The project will also offer short-term training and degree programs in Japan to enhance the knowledge and skills of selected project personnel.
