PHIVOLCS is currently conducting a second batch of REDAS training for the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) after the successful first training batch held last April 2021.  The current training is a combination of online and face-to-face means of teaching, the first attempt by PHIVOLCS REDAS Team to venture into this new teaching setup. to The training is entitled “Capacity Enhancement of Light Rail Manila Corporation on Hazard, Risk Assessment and Exposure Database Development through the Use of the REDAS Software – Modules 1 and 2 (Basic REDAS, Seismic Hazard Assessment and Developing Relational Database in REDAS)”.  The LRMC is the entity that operates and maintains the LRT Line 1 System, a public transport that services more than 450,000 passengers daily.  After the first REDAS training in 2021, the LRMC management decided to share their REDAS experience with their Multipartite monitoring Team (MMT) members and grantor representatives as “a proactive and holistic approach” in developing business continuity plans.  The LRMC wanted to harness the capability of REDAS on assessing possible earthquake impacts to areas around the rail. There are a total of 33 participants from LRMC, Metro Pacific T Corporation, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), Metro Pacific Tollway Corporation, MPT South Management Corporation, NLEX Corporation and Awesome Ways International Services. Among the MMT member are LGU and institutional partners from the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection and the LGUs of Pasay City, Paranaque, Caloocan City and Capital City of Manila. 

On June 7, 2022, the opening ceremony was graced by DOST Undersecretary and PHIVOLCS OIC Renato U. Solidum Jr, LRMC CEO and President Juan Alfonso and Mr Peter Eric Pardo Chief representing the Honorable Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano. This combined Modules 1 and 2 tackle Basic REDAS, Seismic Hazard Assessment, REDAS Spatialite series and the REDAS Earthquake and Tsunami Alerting Module (ETAM) and Satellite Rainfall Monitor (SRM) monitoring modules. 

Speakers included REDAS Programme coordinator and Associate Scientist Dr. Maria Leonila P. Bautista, Dr. Winchelle Ian G. Sevilla as well as REDAS staffs Ian P. Javier, John Deladia, For. Jordana Marie L. Argamosa, Engr. Noel C. Rosario, Jr., Sarena P. Tarongoy, Engr. Hannah Torio and Engr. Jose Vincent Cruz.   From DOST-PAGASA, Engr. Sharon Juliet M. Arruejo will give a lecture on Understanding Weather Hazards while Bernard C. Punzalan II will introduce the REDAS Satellite Rainfall Monitor (SRM).  Engr. Angelito Lanuza will be moderating the workshop discussion while PHIVOLCS SOEPD OIC Ishmael C. Narag will be giving the closing remarks.
